    • Never Pour When It Pours

      May 29, 2021

When it comes to concrete, that's our mantra. The foundation of one of our new projects, a custom 2,700 square foot walkout rancher in The Highlands of Shuswap Lake Estates, was formed, inspected, and approved to pour this past week. But typical May weather made us reconsider and hold off pouring.

Fortunately, the weather looks much better for this coming Monday, so that's when we'll bring in the pump truck and get the walls poured.

The job is actually a mono-pour -- we'll pump the footings and the walls at the same time. We're doing more and more of this, as we believe we end up with better product with no cold joints between the footings and the walls. This method requires a little more preparation and a slightly higher cost, but this is offset by the fact that we only bring in a pump truck once instead of twice.

Note the nine foot foundation walls in the photo below -- the extra foot results in such a spacious feeling on the lower level, particularly in those areas that have to be dropped to accommodate HVAC ducting. You also can't help but notice the spectacular views from the home site. Not only will the new owners have superb sunset and lake views on beautiful days, but they'll also be able to see some of the dramatic weather moving down the lake (from the comfort of one of their beautiful covered decks).

      More details coming soon.
